The year is winding down and thoughts begin to revolve around GIFTS. The ones you received and the ones you have returned. But have you thought about the one ultimate gift you can give others?
Your gift as a performer (and it is a gift) can be so much more than an hour of trivial laughter. Admittedly, there are times when a simple laugh is all the audience wants. It’s 100% okay by me. But not if that is all that happens 100% of the time.
We have a platform, make a bigger impact.
In the hands of a skilled comedian, the microphone can be the single most powerful tool for crafting a message a specific audience needs to hear. The crowds are in front of us. Their eyes open and minds receptive. We can impart ideas of hope and reasons to rally.
When tough times and tragedy strike, laughter is a HUGE gift. Comedy shows can raise money for tornado, flood and hurricane victims. The show itself can also provide a healthy mental relief from the stress of the situation.
Reminding audience members of the need to raise more money for research for cures and treatments is also a selfless and easy task.
What greater good can your performances achieve?
Who can benefit from your gift?
The gift of laughter is extremely powerful. Do’t waste it. I highly encourage you to use your talent for a greater good in the next year. Join forces with others. Look for unserved needs in your local community. Offer to put on shows to raise money for a project. Donate your talents to raise awareness. As a byproduct you will get more stage time and increase your profile in the community. But put your agenda aside. Trust me, you’ll get more out of this than expected.
Give your gift. ‘Tis the season.
Happy new year everyone!
